| About 1.5 hours by train from Sousse, Mahdia is a pretty coastal town set on a headland. There is an old castle, plenty of ruins and an ancient harbour. | |

The modern town still has a French colonial flavour, and it is a pleasant place to explore on foot. You don't find many tourists down here and it is a nice place to spend a day's excursion away from the hustle and bustle of Sousse. |
